Well that is a lot of signal converting. Digital to analog to HD digital. I’m not sure how that would work because I haven’t tried it. But have you tried lowering your resolution? I’ve read that sometimes an analog signal (like VGA) sent to a HDTV limits the resolution. Lowering it may display something on your TV.
Shutting the computer down first should not matter, I never do it.
I don’t think you should need a new video card. Since it has DVI ports it may be easier to get a DVI to HDMI cable
i have a vga to hdmi cable but i put a dvi to vga end to match up with my monitor input cable n was wondering why im not gettin any picture?
my tv is able to be ran as a computer screan and has rca inputs for audio from computer but i tryed this n got no picture, i didn’t shut down the comp befor i did this tho, should i try that? i wanna get it to were i can play my comp n what knot on the tv, or should i get a new video card?
Is it a 1080i HDTV or a 720p? I have a 720p and my video card’s drivers would not let me set it over 1074×768 without giving me a warning. Perhaps yours just won’t let you do it at all?
Hey I am trying to do the same thing with my tv/pc but I do not have a stereo system with my tv. How would you hook up the sound and the hdmi to the tv at the same time?
Well, I have some cheques clearing so I can buy a 23″ LG monitor (1920×1080 wide) hell yeh! Then I want my TV on the other dvi port with dvi to hdmi adaptor. The HDMI cables are quite a bit expensive. I bought one for my PS3 a months ago for £25! I was a bit hesistant then, finding them cheaper now is annoying. I’ll buy some cables tonight I think… It’s just getting the right length I need 2 0.75 metre ones really. Then this long one for PC. I’ll check the drivers. You got skype?
Probably. Since I made this video, ATI released new drivers for my video card (slightly higher model than yours) which allows me to send audio with the HDMI cable, even while using the DVI>HDMI adapter.
Just set it up with an HDMI cable and update your video drivers, if it is an option it will probably ask you, for me, a dialog box popped up asking if I wanted to send video and audio through the HDMI cable.
Right, Right I can do all this. What I want to know is can my gpu carry the audio from dvi to hdmi to my TV so I don’t need my speakers to be on, just my tv’s. Ok, ok, it might sound impossible but, my GPU (ati 4870, can come with hdmi outputs, but you can get dvi to hdmi convertors). I’m just annoyed because when I output my PC on the tv, I have the speakers on the left so games never feel right. Thanks, Taz.
No, there isn’t much of a difference between a monitor and a TV, except a TV typically has more inputs and comes with a remote. Other than that, they’re the same hardware and work the same way.
I have connected with my HDMI cabel a TV and PC, i have the picture but I dont have the sound on the movies, what should I do? …and I have the sound on my games…but not on the movies
If you keep using your HDTV in order to project stuff from your computer (also playing computer games in the TV)… will that make problems in my TV in a future or not? I have an LCD HDTV Sharp 52′ with 120 HZ.
Try moving your mouse all over the place. Does it show up on your TV? Right-click your desktop and check out the display settings, you should see options to setup your TV there now.
Hey I bought the video card had it installed and have the HDMI cord…It is plugged into the HDMI slot on my video card…..when I turn on the comp[uter and TV i can only get audio but the tv screen remains blue…..it doesnt say no signal..it is just a blue screen. like now i am watching your video on my computer and the audio is coming from the TV but there is no video being displayed….Do you know what I need to do?
yea my laptop only have a VGA port and my tv has the same port so i can use the VGA cable but i have understood that VGA cable dont carry audio that’s why i wanted to go with the VGA to HDMI.. if i use the VGA, how can i get audio?
VGA to HDMI should only be a last resort. If you don’t have a DVI port on your computer and only a VGA, check to see if your TV has a VGA port also. If so, then use a VGA cable between the two.
I don’t know anything about your laptop, but if it only has a VGA and not a DVI port then it may not have a good enough graphics card to push high definition video to a HDTV smoothly.
oh ok, thanks. i didnt know that. but what’s the point of VGA to HDMI then? the sound and video in a single cable?.
also, i’d like to know if my laptop needs any special requierement to support the VGA to HDMI cable. i have an HP pavilion dv6000, will it work with my laptop? thanks

does the blue cable work to the tv?
December 12th, 2009 at 6:30 am
If your video drivers are able to send audio and video down the same HDMI cable it will tell you, then that is all you need to hook up.

I don’t have Skype. jasonrj is my gmail address, I usually respond pretty fast if I’m not busy or sleeping.

Also, if it doesn’t pop up, check around in your video settings for it.

You’ve connected your cable from your monitor to your TV? How about you connect it from your computer to your TV, since that would make sense.

If you have sound for games but not movies then there is a problem with your video player or codecs or something.

True, however you can purchase a stereo mini plug RCA conversion cable.
