Well that is a lot of signal converting. Digital to analog to HD digital. I'm not sure how that would work because I haven't tried it. But have you tried lowering your resolution? I've read that sometimes an analog signal (like VGA) sent to a HDTV limits the resolution. Lowering it may display something on your TV.

Shutting the computer down first should not matter, I never do it.

I don't think you should need a new video card. Since it has DVI ports it may be easier to get a DVI to HDMI cable

If your video drivers are able to send audio and video down the same HDMI cable it will tell you, then that is all you need to hook up.

Is it a 1080i HDTV or a 720p? I have a 720p and my video card's drivers would not let me set it over 1074x768 without giving me a warning. Perhaps yours just won't let you do it at all?

Well, I have some cheques clearing so I can buy a 23" LG monitor (1920x1080 wide) hell yeh! :) Then I want my TV on the other dvi port with dvi to hdmi adaptor. The HDMI cables are quite a bit expensive. I bought one for my PS3 a months ago for £25! I was a bit hesistant then, finding them cheaper now is annoying. I'll buy some cables tonight I think... It's just getting the right length :( I need 2 0.75 metre ones really. Then this long one for PC. I'll check the drivers. You got skype?
