With the rapid development of satellite TV technology, any person around the world can watch their television programs. They can watch live TV coverage or a big sporting event, all in the comfort of their home.
If you want to watch satellite TV, you’re going to need some special hardware called PCTV cards. These will need to be installed on the computer so you are able to receive the satellite TV feed. There are two kinds of PCTV cards; one is external, the other is internal.
Two Kinds of PCTV Cards
External cards come in a box where you connect one end of it to your PC through a USB port. The other end will need to be connected to the phone or cable line, depending on what kind of Internet speed connection you have. You also have the option of using a wireless version.
If you choose the internal TVPC card, this must be installed into the computer through the PCI or PCI express slot.
These PCTV cards can decode the analog signals, turning them into digital signals so you can watch your TV or listen to the radio through your PC.
How Good Is The Quality?
There are two factors that will affect the quality of your TV channels and they are:
- Connection speed
- Computer configuration
Connection Speed – When you want quality TV on the PC, you should have a broadband connection, as opposed to a dial-up one. Make sure the connection is at least 512 kilobytes so the speed of the quality is smoother.
Computer Configuration – The majority of the PCTV cards need the minimum PC configuration. However, you should have a Pentium 3 CPU of one gigahertz or higher with at least one USB port for an external PCTV card, 128 megabyte of RAM. Be sure you’re running 98, 2000 or XP. You’ll also need a CD-ROM to install the drivers and software. Since audio is important too, you’ll need an audio card.
You may run across PCTV cards that have the ability to record TV shows but this means you need a large amount of space to do this. The best part is that you can watch satellite TV on PC while checking your email or surfing the web.
