hie sir how can l have that software to see the signal .like a dish finder…please e-mail me on ..owen.mangisi@gmail.com… lam try to link up two offices please help me

meh, Just use a flat panel antenna to locate the general location of a singal and a helical or yagi antenna to lock in on the highest gain for that signal. Dish antenna’s spread the signal out to much, unless you have motorize your feeder to allow you to adjust the focal point and invest a large amount into 5w+ injectors and noise filters (anything above 1000mA in the 2.4ghz band can potentially get the attention of the FCC though).

How would you connect the LMR400 cable to the computer?

@salem113 netstumbler is just running in the background on my screen xDDD

having Just one high gain antennas is Usless for long range connectiion without a second high gain antenna on the other side you’re trying to connecting to so basically because you have a powerfull high gain antenna does not mean you will be able to connect to wifis from miles away unless you have another high gain antennas on the other side so with just one high gain antenna it might pickup lots of wifis but connecting to most of them is impossible signal will be to weak!!!

  6. salem113 Says:

@nnmk001 you have a point, the range is limited on this, it wouldnt go miles, you might get 1/4 of a mile. This could pick up signals from 4 blocks away (mc donalds is 4 blocks away from where i am at and i can pick it up with this). Its not a 14 dBi High Gain Outdoor Directional Antenna that could go about 3-5 miles. This is just a improve signal

For the ordinary non-geek user they really should have gone into more detail on how to connect the antenna to your wifi card since most cards/adapters don’t have the means to accept external connectors.

  8. salem113 Says:

@mel2000 you have to remember this video is old most likely as of 2003. USB cards nowdays do not have the cabability to connect an external antenna, unless you modify one. People need to get creative if they want this to work. There are instructions online on google

  9. mryellow123 Says:

@mel2000 That’s very specific info to each card…. Depending on the card you might have to open it and cut into circuits etc. The design/dimensions of antennas is also very specific to the frequency being used.

This is video entertainment not really informative.

How would i use my grid antenna with my amped repeater to make the signal wireless

It’s amazing with a bit of knowledge a hundred feet of range can be turned into a few miles. sattvmax.com

before G4 crap television, people could actually learn cool stuff

my only question is, are they using an amplifier? because i have an alfa card with a SMA connector on the end with a couple of differant antennas. I can get a low loss cable from that to the back of the dish. (they actually have one on amazon) and i can run it directly to the dish, but don’t know if i should buy a small 1 or 2 watt amplifier.

  18. salem113 Says:

@Black93gthatch84 they are not using an amplifyer (basically a piece of copper and a tin can). Not really sure if an amplifyer will work, well yes it would with signal but you could blow the wireless card. you might want to do a little more research on it or attempt at your own risk

  19. Black93gthatch84 Says:

I’m actually about to order the antenna they are using in the video. They have one on amazon for around 50 bucks. I would also have to get the low loss cable that connects to the alfa adapter. (SMA connector, to the Type N connector on the “dish”)

  20. Black93gthatch84 Says:

oh i see. Have you ever heard of anyone blowing their wireless card using an amplifier? Because i want to get the parabolic antenna and see if i can reach my mothers wifi about .9 to 1 mile away. I have a really nice strong alfa network adapter that has a male SMA connector with a few differant antennas. I can pick up a signal about .3 Miles now with a 7DBI antenna, with no amplifier. I appriciate your feedback also.

    [question removed]

    70k , so that’s 70,000 meters , nice.

  22. CrewRite Says:

Give your friends a cheap rate for wireless internet. $5 a month or $15 and make the rate cheaper threw refer-a-friend, lol.

  23. n1dp Says:

LMR 400 6.8 db loss per 100 feet at 2.4 GHz. Not what they implied.

This is back before g4 took over tech TV, and the shows were ACTUALLY GOOD!
